Steven Spielberg's movie studio DreamWorks has bought the rights to adventure series The 39 Clues.

Spielberg will produce the film, with the Indiana Jones director set to hire a screenwriter over the next few weeks, reports Variety.com.

The 39 Clues in an innovative 10 book adventure series for young teenagers, and focuses on the most powerful family in the world - the Cahills. In addition to the book there will also be collectible cards and an online game that will give young readers a chance to solve the mystery of the Cahills, who count Napoleon and Houdini as their relatives, in a bid to win $10,000. The contest as well as the series will run for two years, while the first book in the saga The Maze of Bones will be released in September.

Spielberg said, "The 39 Clues takes creative leaps to expand the story experience from the pages of the books to multiple stages of discovery and imagination."

DreamWorks CEO Stacey Snider added, "There is enough material here for three or four movies. Steven is very involved and passionate. This excites me as an executive but also as a mother. It is an educational, challenging interactive experience that hits kids where they live."
