Romero directs the undead again

Franchises normally come in threes but not for zombie creator George A Romero who has signed on to make a fifth movie about the undead.

The man who brought us Night Of The Living Dead and subsequent flesh eating sequels has signed up to write and direct Diary Of The Dead.

The 'ingenious' plot involves a group of students filming their own horror movie in a nearby forest only to find themselves caught in a real-life zombie uprising. Rather than flee for their lives the would-be-filmmakers decide to take advantage of their new extras and capture their flesh eating rampage for their own production.

Diary Of The Dead will be Romero's first independently financed zombie movie since Dawn Of The Dead, after last year's Universal-produced Land Of The Dead (pic) failed to capture the imagination of horror fans.
