George Clooney and his pal Brad Pitt are reportedly in competition over a film role.

The two close friends, who star together in the Coen brothers latest hit film Burn After Reading, are said to both be in the frame to play Henry Higgins, originally played by Rex Harrison, in the forthcoming My Fair Lady remake.

"We both badly want a particular role and neither is backing down," Clooney said. "It's sort of become an intense competition between us now and it just keeps escalating."

He's also been quoted as saying, “For now we're both so angry we're not even in contact any more,” which is almost certainly a bit of that famous Clooney humour.

It's rumoured that Pitt also wanted his partner Angelina Jolie to play Cockney flower girl-turned-high society lady Eliza Doolittle, which would have been, er, interesting. In the end that role, originally played by Audrey Hepburn, went to Keira Knightley.
