Scarlett's album loses nothing in translation

David Bowie has lavished praise on actress Scarlett Johansson's Tom Waits covers album, describing her singing style as "mystical".

The pop legend, who contributed two tracks to the record (Fannin' Street and Falling Down), titled Anywhere I Lay My Head, raves about the Lost In Translation star's talents on his website.

"The songs are great, really good Tom Waits stuff," he writes, "and Scarlett's performances are mystical and twice cool. She creates a mood that could have been summoned by someone like [novelists] Margery Latimer and Jeanette Winterson."

Of his own involvement, Bowie is self-deprecating. "All I contribute are these oohs and ahhs," he says.

Apparently, the couple first met at a party, where the actress asked Bowie if he'd be interested in appearing on her album.

Anywhere I Lay My Head – which also features the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Nick Zinner – is released in America in May.
