Charlie And The Chocolate Factory actor Freddie Highmore has signed up to star in a new super hero film with a difference.

The 16-year-old will play leukaemia-stricken teenager in Death of A Superhero and he uses a comic book hero to help him battle the illness.

The film is based on Anthony McCarten's best-selling novel and is scheduled to begin shooting in New Zealand later this year.

British actor Highmore has previously appeared in Finding Neverland, August Rush, and The Spiderwick Chronicles as well as the aforementioned Tim Burton flick, which starred Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka.
