After starring in worthy dramas and adult thrillers Jodie Foster has decided to "lighten up".
The two time Oscar winner chose to star in her new movie kids fantasy drama Nims Island so her two children Charles and Kit can finally see what she does for a living.
She said, "I barely do one movie a year but I've been wanting to do something that shows the lighter side of myself for a long time,
"I love doing my dramas, but every once in a while you just shake it up and explore that side of yourself, because I'm a pretty light person - I'm not very heavy.
"It's great to lighten up and it's also great to be able to have the kids actually see the movie. With The Brave One, they couldn't even see the commercial. It was hard on me."
Not that Foster regrets working on the 2007 vigilante thriller, which received lukewarm praise from critics. "I'm proud of the performance, where it took me, and the complexity of the movie. Interestingly enough, with both Nell [1994 drama] and The Brave One, I think the best performances I've given were the least well received.
"There's a reason for that. I think when you try something new that's a bit more complicated and complex that doesn't follow the usual storytelling pattern, not everybody likes it."
