Heard hears the "Stepfather" calling

Amber Heard (the impossibly pretty one from "All the Boys Love Mandy Lane" and soon to be seen in the Fight Club-Lite "Never Back Down") has signed up to Screen Gems' "The Stepfather", a horror remake of the 1987 thriller. I know, insert groan here, another horror remake is not exactly the order of the day but if Heard can bring some of that edginess from "All the Boys Love Mandy Lane" then this one might be worth keeping an eye on.

Starring alongside Heard is Jon Tenney (from TV's "The Closer") who will play a father trying to protect his teenage son from a rather unhinged new man of the house in Dylan Walsh ("Nip/Tuck") - a man who has suffered with mental illness his whole life and consequently may have butchered his own family. Heard gets to play the son's girlfriend and will no doubt find herself at the mercy of the deranged Stepfather along with everyone else.

Nelson McCormick will direct "The Stepfather" from a script by J.S. Cardone, both of whom worked together on the forthcoming "Prom Night" (another 80's horror remake no less), which is released here on May 9.
