Peter Baynham, co-writer of the Borat film, will be penning a script for the forthcoming Arthur remake.
The film, which originally starred Dudley Moore as an amiable drunk heir to a fortune, will feature Russell Brand in the title role.
Steve Gordon's original won Academy Awards for best song (Between The Moon And New York City) and best supporting actor for John Gielgud.
Brand introduced himself to American audiences with his portrayal of the rock star lothario in this year's Forgetting Sarah Marshall, while he appears next in Adam Sandler's festive family comedy Bedtime Stories (opens on Boxing Day).
Baynham previously appeared in British comedy shows such as The Day Today and was nominated for an Oscar as co-writer of Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan, alongside Sacha Baron Cohen, Anthony Hines and Dan Mazer.
