Pegg says Enterprise is in safe hands

Simon Pegg has reassuring words for concerned Trekkers. The Run Fat Boy Run star is convinced that the forthcoming movie is in good hands with director J.J. Abrams.

Pegg plays Scotty in the eagerly-anticipated prequel and says he wouldn't have got involved if he thought fans, who are notoriously precious about the USS Enterprise crew and adventures, wouldn't be happy with the film.

"Star Trek is very precious to a lot of people and they want it to be right," the Shaun Of The Dead actor said. "As a Star Trek fan, I would want the film to be made by a Star Trek fan if I wasn't in the film and it is being made by a fan.

"J.J. is that person and the decisions he makes are in accordance with that love, so the fans should relax."

As for his role in the movie, Pegg is taking it very seriously indeed, while still finding it difficult to believe he actually landed the part: "You think, 'I am actually aboard The Enterprise.' That's cool. As for me playing Scotty, I'm not doing this lightly," he added. "If I start doing an impression of (original Scotty) James Doohan, it might look like I'm making fun of him and that is the absolute last thing I would ever want.

"He's a legendary character and, as an actor, he created one of the most significant figures in modern sci-fi. It was daunting. I'm gonna be Scotty and I had to approach it very carefully."
