What with a slight tease that a third Batman film could be in the works (just when Christopher Nolan gets back from tropical climes that is!!), the UK Box Office has thrown up quite a surprise - "The Dark Knight" is no longer number 1! That honour befalls Big Red and Guillermo del Toro as their "Hellboy II: The Golden Army" debuted with a sensational £3 million weekend to claim the top spot. Still riding on an ABBA high is "Mamma Mia!" at two having officially surpassed the £50 million mark in its 7 weeks on general release (by far and away the UK's highest grossing film of the year). Another new entry at 3 is Steve Carell in "Get Smart". His Super Spy high jinks pulling in some £1.5 million worth of Box Office receipts to land in at 3. That all means that "The Dark Knight" has plunged from the summit down to 4 but its run of success is not likely to be challenged this year what with "Harry Potter" retreating to next summer.

Falling two places down to 5 is Adam Sandler in "You Don't Mess With The Zohan" jostling for space with those undead mummies in "The Mummy: Tomb of The Dragon Emperor" at 6. Having impressed slightly on its debut last week, the tween epic "Wild Child" now sees its stock fall down to 7. That means that the legendary "WALL-E" is forced to suffer the ignominy of sharing the lower echelons of the Chart with such fare as the little tin man finds himself at 8 this week. Falling from grace and from our memories is "Star Wars: The Clone Wars". After just two weeks on release, George Lucas' latest franchise resurrection has fallen three places down to 9 and looks likely to bow out the Chart altogether. And the wooden spoon this week goes to none other than "Space Chimps" in at 10.
