Sylvester Stallone's return as Rambo met with unexpected resistance at the US box office this weekend.
Meet The Spartans, a spoof of recent epic blockbusters like 300, proved more than a match for Rambo's hi-tech weaponry, pulling in $18.7m to the revived warrior's £18.2m.
The ancient Greek spoof is part of the long-running partnership between Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer which made generic comedies such as Date Movie and Epic Movie.
Last week's top film, disaster flick Cloverfield slipped to Four, one place behind Katherine Heigl rom-com 27 Dresses.
Despite the disappointment of opening second, the Weinstein Co. studio talked up the possibility of another Rambo. "This film has been a long time coming," said Harvey Weinstein. "Based on these numbers, there should be another one."
Better place an order for some testosterone, Sly.
