The studios do love a low budget horror. Just ask Rogue Pictures. Their $9 million investment in Bryan Bertino's "The Strangers" saw a return of $54 million in the US alone and looks set to perform healthily on this side of the pond too. Despite being released in the competitive summer period, "The Strangers", utilising a strong marketing campaign and even stronger critical praises, stuck around in the Box Office Chart and proved a surprise hit of the summer.
According to trade mag Variety, Rogue Pictures have commissioned writer/director Bryan Bertino to write a follow-up script for a possible sequel. (Spoiler Alert) The expectation is that Liv Tyler, along with the trio of knife-wielding psychos, will return. Production is being slated for early 2009.
Next for Bertino is a scripting and directing gig on "Black", a character-driven thriller with dark supernatural elements.
