Comedy spoof's Epic box office coup

If you happened to miss every cinematic release of 2006 don't worry - a new film has handily summed it all up for you.

Comedy spoof Epic Movie, which topped the North American box office chart on its opening weekend, lampoons Hollywood blockbusters including The Da Vinci Code, Borat, Superman and Pirates Of The Caribbean. Written by the team behind horror spoof Scary Movie, the film took an estimated $19.2m (£9.8m).

Gangster flick Smokin' Aces came in second, taking $14.3m (£7.3m) from Friday to Sunday while hit Christmas comedy Night At The Museum, featuring Ben Stiller, is still popular, coming in third with a massive $216.7m (£110.6m) from its six weeks on release.

Newly released romance Catch and Release was at four with $8m (£4.08m) while Stomp the Yard, slipped from its No1 spot to fifth with $7.8 m (£3.98m).
