Jessica Alba has attempted to turned the table on Fox News pundit Bill O'Reilly who insinuated that the actress was stupid.

O'Reilly ridiculed Alba as he thought she had confused Sweden with Switzerland when she said to a reporter "be Sweden about it" referring to his refusal to answer her question 'what do you like most about President Barack Obama.'

O'Reilly called her "misguided" on his Fox News show but Alba pointed out that Sweden was in fact a neutral country during World War II.

She wrote on her MySpace blog: "I find it depressing that, in the midst of perhaps the most salient time in our country's history, individuals are taking it upon themselves to encourage negativity and stupidity."

"Last week, Mr Bill O'Reilly and some really classy sites insinuated I was dumb by claiming Sweden was a neutral country. I appreciate the fact that [O'Reilly] is a news anchor and that gossip sites are inundated with intelligent reporting, but seriously people... it's so sad to me that you think the only neutral country during WWII was Switzerland.

"I appreciate the name calling and the accurate reporting. Keep it up!"

Website TMZ, which initially lampooned the actress before Fox picked up on it, subsequently issued a seemingly tongue-in-cheek apology, saying: "She is absolutely correct. Sweden was a neutral country... 60 years ago. We apologise for not considering the political climate of the world in 1942 when we suggested she may have meant, 'Be Switzerland' - a country that is currently neutral."
