It had to happen one day in Hollywood - a remake is to get remade. Universal studios is planning a re-imagining of John Carpenter's 1982 horror classic The Thing - itself a remake of Howard Hawks 1951 film The Thing From Another World.

Both versions and the subsequent one in the works are based on short story Who Goes There by John W. Campbell Jr. It revolves around US workers situated in a small base in a Norwegian wintery landscape attempting to fend off a viscous shape shifting alien.

The new version will be scripted by the Battlestar Galactica remake mastermind Ron Moore, while TV advert director Matthijs Van Heijningen will helm the re-imagining.
