Director Francis Lawrence has confirmed that he is working on a prequel to the Will Smith-starring post-apocalyptic blockbuster I Am Legend.

Speaking to Shock Till You Drop at Comic-Con International, Lawrence said that Will Smith's character Dr. Robert Neville would return for the new movie which presumably will be set sometime before the plague wipes away most of humanity.

He said: "Absolutely, we're actually trying to crack that. We're trying to figure out some ideas for it, but yes, it would be a prequel."

Once again the director will be shutting off some of New York's busy streets, which he's not overly concerned about, unlike some of the city's motorists one would imagine.

"The first time you got out there and shut down 6th Avenue, it's like, 'How are we going to do this day after day after day?' But by the end, it's just like you know how to do it," he explained.

"You got the PAs who know how to shut it down, how to let the traffic through in between set-ups and you just sort of get the routine down, so that's not the issue."
