The Saw films have become the highest grossing horror franchise in history.
Thanks to the weekend's $30 million US box office takings of Saw V this weekend, it has overtaken the Friday the 13th films as the most lucrative horror franchise ever.
The films have now made over $316 million in the US alone, beating the Friday The 13th series ($315). The Nightmare On Elm Street movies have taken $307 million, while the Halloween franchise has raked in $275 million.
The films are based on ingenious traps laid out by sadistic serial killer Jigsaw (played by Tobin Bell). He punishes his victims because they have led questionable lives.
Lionsgate's President of Theatrical films, Tom Ortenberg, said, "The remarkable longevity of the Saw franchise is a testament to the creative skills of our Twisted Pictures partners and the tremendous talent and originality of the entire creative team.
"Every Saw film is as fresh, original and terrifying as the first. As a result, Jigsaw has become as much a part of Halloween as pumpkins and trick or treating and, based on the vitality of Saw V, it is clear that there is plenty of blood left to give."
However, Saw's stint at the top may be a short one. The big budget remake of Friday The 13th is due out next February.
