Director is scared off by "The Wolfman"

According to reports in trade mag Variety, director Mark Romanek (most famous for his work on music promos for such luminaries of the pop world as Michael Jackson and The Red Hot Chili Peppers) has taken the proverbial silver bullet and stepped back from Universal Pictures' "The Wolfman".

Romanek ("One Hour Photo") withdrew from the project late Monday citing 'creative differences' - Hollywood's catch-all term for when a director/writer/producer falls out with one another and usually in an explosive fashion. Hopefully Romanek's departure from proceedings does not affect the film too much, "The Wolfman" is one horror remake actually worth bringing up to date. Playing the hairy, and occasionally grumpy, beast is Benicio Del Toro with Emily Blunt ("The Devil Wears Prada") and Anthony Hopkins ("Silence of the Lambs") to star alongside him.

Expect Universal to pounce on another director in double-quick time as to guarantee their proposed February 18th shooting date. "The Wolfman" is expected to hit cinemas February 13, 2009.
