According to the The Hollywood Reporter, the cult Alt icon "Emily the Strange" is about to get the big screen makeover treatment courtesy of Dark Horse Entertainment president Mike Richardson who is set to oversee the project in a producing capacity. Yes, hold the back page as this will be a comic book origin story - albeit one with a difference! "Emily the Strange" tells the story of an introverted gothic girl and her four mysterious cats. The character was first conjured up by Rob Reger back in the early '90s for Dark Horse Comics.
"Emily herself is very appealing little girl, there's an edge to her," Richardson commented. "There is something very alluring to her image; people see it and respond to it immediately." Richardson knows a thing or two about bringing Dark Horse characters to life what with his producing work on "Hellboy" and the incoming "Hellboy II: The Golden Army" as well as the excellent "30 Days of Night".
Currently, Richardson is shopping around for a director with the project being touted about the studios (although expect this one to be snapped up by Universal due to their first-look deal with Dark Horse).
