Sandra Bullock is hoping to become a German after revealing that she wants apply for citizenship there.

The Speed actress was raised in Germany until she moved to the US with her German opera singer mum and her American born father when she was 12.

And now that Germany are set to relax their dual citizenship laws, she is keen to apply for citizenship.

Speaking at the Munich premiere of her new comedy The Proposal, she said, "It would be wonderful if my sister and I could succeed. It is something my mother wished for her children.

"Half of my family is German."

Currently, children born to foreign parents in Germany must choose which nationality they want on their passport. However, it's thought that they will soon be able to apply for dual citizenship.

The Proposal, which also stars Ryan Reynolds, also deals with issues of citizenship. Her canadian character gets married to her lowly assistant in a bid to keep her American visa.
