The last weekend of the year saw a raft of top titles crashing into the UK Chart, but it was rubber faced loon Jim Carrey who took the top title.

The Canadian funnyman's latest flick "Yes Man", which is based on Danny Wallace's book, snatched top spot over the weekend for Warner, taking more than £2.3 million at the box office.

The comedy held off stiff competition from angry comedian Adam Sandler with his family friendly Disney movie "Bedtime Stories" and Baz Luhrmann's epic romance "Australia" which stars Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman.

All three films opened on Boxing Day, with "Bedtime Stories" taking £1.55 million and "Australia" grossing £1.29 million.

More family fun in the form of animated antics came in fourth with that crazy menagerie of wildlife in "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa". Featuring the voices of Ben Stiller and Chris Rock, the film dropped down two places to fourth taking £1.18 million, while teen vampire romance "Twilight" slipped all the way to fifth with £1.15 million.

In the second half of the top ten, "The Day The Earth Stood Still" did anything but, falling two places to sixth, while new entry "Ghajini", a Hindi thriller, crashes in at six.

Rounding out the top ten are family movie "Inkheart" featuring Brendan Fraser, Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon comedy "Four Christmases" and finally "The Tale Of Despereaux".
