US shock jock Howard Stern is set to revisit two of his favourite childhood films - Rock 'n' Roll High School and Porky's.
The former was originally a vehicle for cartoonish punk band The Ramones, featuring a rebellious schoolgirl obsessed with the band battling against her authoritarian principal. The film will be scripted by Alex Winter, best known for his role as Bill in the Bill & Ted movies which launched Keanu Reeves to stardom.
Stern recently announced his involvement in Porky's, a remake of the 1982 high school comedy which proved a successful forerunner for the American Pie series many years later.
Stern is still a huge name in the States, where he moved from terrestrial to satellite radio in 2004 in a bid to circumvent heavy censorship. The deal was worth a reputed $500m for his company.
His only significant feature film to date, 1997's Private Parts, grossed over $40m in the States.
Variety are running an online poll to see who should replace The Ramones, three of whom are now dead, as the featured band. White Stripes are ahead with 38%, with Radiohead in second on 27%, suggesting either a lot of voters have no idea what the original film is like, or want it changed beyond all recognition.
