Jessica Simpson has sparked a race row after making a flippant comment during an interview.
The Dukes of Hazzard star was asked if she would take back expensive presents that she bought for her then boyfriend Tony Romo now that they've broken up.
To which, she replied, "I'm not an Indian giver," - a reference to people who give a gift and take it back. It is based on the stereotypical untrustworthy image of Native Americans.
The Native American community were less than happy with the comments, but a spokesperson for the National Congress of American Indians has defended the actress.
Jacqueline Pata, said, "Most people flippantly use the comment 'Indian giver' without realising its true meaning. Jessica's comment provides us with a good chance to educate people."
