Russell rejected by 14-year-old

Russell Crowe is a man used to having star-struck people hanging off his every word.

So it was a shock to the actor when his teenage co-star turned down cosy advice sessions while filming his new movie A Good Year.

In the film Crowe's character Max Skinner is portrayed as a child by Freddie Highmore, the child star of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and Finding Neverland.

No doubt thinking the 14-year-old lad would jump at the chance, Crowe offered to spend some time with him to work on their performances.

"I went up to him on the first day he arrived," Crowe recalled. "(I) said, 'G'day Freddie, I'm Russell. Seeing as you're playing me as a young man, if you want to spend time hanging out, we'll get to know each other and discuss it.'

"And he goes, 'Oh, no, I don't think I'll have time for that.'"

Maybe Charlie prefers his good friend Johnny Depp, who mentored him through previous films...
