The film, which tells the tale of a man who decides to say yes to everything, took nearly £2.5 million at the box office.

Another comedy was in at second place - Bedtime Stories took £1.5 million. The Adam Sandler family comedy also stars Russell Brand.

Sweeping epic Australia was in a third place, while Madagascar Escape 2 Africa dropped from second to fourth spot. Last week's number one film, vampire romance Twilight fell all the way to fifth place.

Apart from Yes Man, Bollywood film Ghajini was the only other brand new entry in the top ten.
