Remake of Poseidon adventure docking

In 1972 the disaster movie broke big with the arrival of The Poseidon Adventure, the story of a cruise liner that rolls over in a storm. It was a ground-breaking, pyrotechnic and effects-filled movie at the time. Now Hollywood is filming a remake.

Wolfgang Peterson has had plenty of experience on and under the stormy seas having made The Perfect Storm with George Clooney, and as director of Das Boot - the story of a WWII German U-boat crew. As director of the new movie he's ably supported by an experienced sea-fairing star, Richard Dreyfuss, who's breakthrough role was in Steven Spielberg's Jaws. Kurt Russell (pictured) is also 'on board' along with Josh Lucas as two of the surviving passengers who have to navigate their way through the overturned ship to safety. The remake stays true to the original with a major storm causing the ship to flip unlike a rather distasteful 2005 TV version which laid the blame squarely at terrorists.

The real star of the new film seems likely to be the ship, which looks more like a skyscraper from the inside and a seriously large council housing development from the outside!
