Charlie's Angels director McG turned down the chance to helm the new Superman movie because he's terrified of flying.
No, it wasn't that McG believed he would have to be airbourne to keep up with the Man Of Steel, the director refused to fly to Sydney, Australia where shooting began because he's claustrophobic.
The Usual Suspects director Bryan Singer was subsequently brought in to save the day - no doubt after ripping off his shirt to reveal a big 'S'.
McG explained, "I didn't want to fly down there... I don't really freak out that we're gonna crash but I freak out (when) everything's great and you're at 40,000 feet and then you realise you're in a steel tube and you can't get out of there and there's nothing but water everywhere when you look down," reports Contact Music.
McG, real name Joseph Nichol, says he having private sessions to help him to conquer his flying fears.
"I'm getting better. I mean I try to figure it out and charter a plane and get used to it and do some more flying... It helped me just figure out what was going on and just get more comfortable," he added.
Superman Returns stars Brandon Routh (pictured) and will reach cinemas next summer.
