Martin Scorsese's Mob classic Goodfellas has been voted the greatest film of all time in a poll conducted by Total Film.

The film, which stars Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Ray Liotta, was labelled "arguably the slickest film ever made. Goodfellas has it all – story, dialogue, performances, technique."

Hitchcock's Vertigo finished second and Jaws third.

Orson Welles' Citizen Kane, which has topped every other poll in existence, finished a lowly sixth.
