It might not have done much to help boost his credibility, but Richard E. Grant owes a debt of gratitude to Argos after his appearances in a set of cheesy adverts for the company helped finance his directorial debut Wah-Wah.
The former Withnail & I star has revealed that when acting work began to dry up he was forced to star in the commercials as he was looking to raise money for his semi-autobiographical movie.
"A certain advertising campaign saw me though a particularly lean period," contactmusic quote him as saying. "I couldn't act for three years so I had to get money from somewhere."
