Ah, a cat-suited Charlize Theron kicking blokes unconscious in the 25th century. Do films get much better than this?
Aeon Flux made its screen debut as an MTV short in the mid-'90s, but here gets translated into live action film, with black haired Theron on a welcome no-brainer holiday after her slew of more serious Oscar-nominated roles.
Theron makes a cool, seductive, futuristic Nikita type rebel in this world where innocents disappear and mother nature runs amok. She's detailed to execute Trevor Goodchild (Martin Csokas), 'sinister' co-ruler, with brother Oren (Jonny Lee Miller), of the post-apocalypse city state of Bregna. However, after a series of strange deja vus, the assassin - not for the first time in the history of the cinema - falls for the prey, so Aeon and Trevor run away together, each pursued by their respective former allies.
Unfortunately, Aeon Flux is mired in earnest dialogue and a flimsy plot that grows less credible the more convoluted it attempts to become. What's more the movie looks disappointingly cheap at times. It's a 1980s TV sci-fi vision of the future where people in orange shiny Ponchos with spiky gelled hair ride in plastic bubble cars with visors.
What little action there is is poorly visualised by director Karyn Kusama and, shallow as it might sound, it's left to Charlize to save the day by looking pretty damn sensational throughout.
Special features include various audio commentaries including Charlize Theron, 'Creating A World' featurette, 'The Locations Of Aeon Flux' featurette, 'The Stunts Of Aeon Flux' featurette and much more.
