Is it written into all Ben Stiller's contracts that his characters must have an odd name? Here, he's under the peculiar moniker of Reuben Feffer.
Reuben is a risk assessor. He likes nothing more than weighing up the odds and taking the path of least risk. Sensibly, he marries straight-laced Lisa (Debra Messing of Will and Grace) as they're forecast a long and happy life. So when she cheats on him on the first day of their honeymoon it's all a bit of shock! Alone and back in New York Reuben meets Polly (Jennifer Aniston), an old school friend who's now a BoHo babe with a taste for spicy snacks, sexy salsa and spontaneity. Can true love bloom between such a mismatched pair?
Directed by John Hamburg, Along Came Polly is sure to inspire plenty of smiles and laughter. Philip Seymour Hoffman pops up as a former child star and best friend offering Reuben plenty of bad advice on getting his life back together. Hank Azaria's turn as a French scuba instructor offers further fine supporting gags. Still, it's the chemistry between Stiller and Aniston that make this movie click with bags of charm and a perfect blend of love and laughs from two of the best romcom-ers around.
