Five Filipino-American friends deal with the everyday struggle to bridge two cultures, while attempting to define what happiness and security mean for them in an adopted homeland. Mike, a compromised news editor, cannot reconcile the shallowness of his material existence with his political activist past. Marissa, a beautiful but vain socialite, falls victim repeatedly to the sexual indiscretions of her boyfriend Sam. Raul, Marissa's young cousin, enjoys the life of a womanizer until his sudden comeuppance. Gerry, a closeted gay, bears the push and pull between his Roman Catholic mother and his HIV-positive lover. And Terre, an accountant in her mid-forties and still single, becomes increasingly insecure about herself and her chances to find love in America.
