This remake of John Carpenter's '70s classic film about a police station under attack from an unseen, but utterly relentless enemy stars Laurence Fishburne, Ethan Hawke and rapper Ja Rule.

Fishburne is a cop-killer, Ja Rule a conman, and both are en route to jail when a snowstorm forces them to take refuge in an undermanned police station captained by Hawke. Fishburne, though, is being targeted by crooked cops (led by Gabriel Byrne) determined to silence him lest he spill their beans.

So the cops are the assailants of the title which is a tad implausible as Carpenter's depiction of a society out of control is turned into a tale of a few bad guys awaiting their comeuppance. Still, action fans will be entertained and Fishburne is class, as always, while Hawke passes muster as the honest cop.

Additional DVD features include: Armed and Dangerous - a weapon specialist reveals how he matched gun to character; Behind Precinct Walls - how the precinct building was constructed from concept to computer screen; Plan Of Attack - a focus on the stunt coordinator and deleted scenes.
