Amityville to be revisited

New film will be based on actual 'found footage' from a seance at the infamouse haunted house

A new film about the house at the centre of the 'Amityville Horror' is in the works.

It's set to be based on a real-life investigation of two reporters who filmed a séance at the house in 1976 for a US news report.

Laura DiDio and Marvin Scott were investigating the story of the Lutz family, who moved into the Long Island house, for WNEW-TV and claim that the filmed report contains evidence of the supernatural and of the ghostly presence of a young boy in the house.

Producer Tony DeRosa-Grund has even secured the actual 'found footage' from the original filming, which was thought to have been lost, and some additional material from Scott.

“I lived through this horrific ordeal, and I am the only person who has the ability to tell the true Amityville prequel story in its entirety,” said DiDio.

“Even after all these years, after what I personally experienced, there is nothing anyone could ever do or say to get me back in that house.”

It's not thought that the 'found footage' will appear in the film - though potentially in the credits - but it will help tell the story of the report rather than the experiences of the family.

The original film, starring Margot Kidder and James Brolin, was a hit on its release in 1979.

It was based on the so-called true story of the Lutz family who moved into the house in Amityville a year after Ronald DeFeo Jr murdered six members of his family there. They moved out after 28 days, claiming evidence of paranormal activity.

There have since been 10 movies based on the story.
