Tall, handsome leading man with classic, angular features. Burke began his career on the daytime serial "As the World Turns", which led to his being cast in "The Chosen" (1981) and in the TV series, "The Gangster Chronicles" (1981). He then headed an experimental teaching project which stressed learning via the arts and humanities.
Burke returned to acting with several commercials and the lead role in Hal Hartley's "The Unbelievable Truth" (1989). His deadpan performance as an ex-convict who returns to his Long Island hometown won critical plaudits, as well as the starring role in the big-budget extravaganza, "RoboCop 3" (the film was released in 1993 after three years of sitting on the shelf due to the financial difficulties of Orion Pictures). Burke's other film work includes Martha Coolidge's "Rambling Rose" (1991) and Hal Hartley's "Simple Men" (1992).
