Aykroyd talks Ghostbusters III plot

Ray Stantz will be back with some new students who make an alarming discovery

Dan Aykroyd has been talking up the plot of the 'Ghostbusters' sequel.

Though there appears to be no guarantee that the project will materialise, the veteran funnyman, who played Dr Ray Stantz in the first two films, has now revealed a little about what a new offering could involve.

As previously mentioned, it will indeed feature a new generation of Ghostbusters alongside some of the original crew-members.

Speaking on Larry King Now, he said: “It’s based on new research that’s being done in particle physics by the young men and women at Columbia University.

“Basically, there’s research being done that I can say that the world or the dimension that we live in, our four planes of existence, length, height, width and time, become threatened by some of the research that’s being done.

“Ghostbusters - new Ghostbusters - have to come and solve the problem.”

Speaking to ShortList earlier this month, he said: “I’m going to be meeting Ivan [Reitman] on June 7 in Cleveland, which is exciting as it’s been on and off for a few years but we’re really looking at a solid script now.

“And I can say that it will be focused on the new generation - think the latest Star Trek. We’re very interested in the anti-matter research that’s going on in the world," he said. "I look at CERN and think it could be a breeding ground for the paranormal."

So, there's a plot in place, and a script in progress, but at this stage that appears to be about it.

Bill Murray, who played Dr Peter Venkman, has said that he won't do another film, but Aykroyd is hopeful that he could change his mind.

“There will be a hole for him,” he added. “If Billy wants to walk in the door and be in the movie, we will find a place.”
