It's taken eight years but producer Jerry Bruckheimer has finally managed to get Will Smith and Martin Lawrence back together to reprise their roles as the Miami cops who like to blow things up, ask questions later.
This adventure finds Detectives Mike Lowrey (Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Lawrence) on the case of a dangerous drug baron who is flooding Miami with ecstasy. What they don't know is that their investigation is stepping on the toes of an undercover agent - who just happens to be Marcus's sister (Gabrielle Union) - while Mike is doing a bit more than stepping on her toes.
There are plenty of stunts and set pieces (the freeway chase is almost as good as the one in The Matrix Reloaded). Guns get fired, cars gets wrecked and gags get thrown around. The villain of the piece still lives in a vast mansion and disposes of his foes in nasty ways while superior officers get ignored or shouted down in a similar manner to cop flicks of the past.
Fans who get their jollies from watching gratuitous violence and want to root for the good ol' US of A will probably love this.
