It's double-disc time for Tim Burton who was in charge for the first installment, which saw Michael Keaton take the title role, but playing second fiddle to Jack Nicholson's outrageously over the top Joker.
Without Jack it would've been a very different film. Keaton certainly wasn't an obvious choice for the muscular caped crusader and Kim Basinger smouldered as the token love interest without ever really igniting. At time of release Batman was possibly the most hyped film in movie history, yet much of it is ponderous and slow moving. Fortunately Nicholson's presence is enough by itself to ensure this Batman is a truly memorable experience.
The jam-packed extras disc includes: On the Set with Bob Kane; Legends of the Dark Knight: The History of Batman: The Batman comic book saga as reinvented and reinterpreted over nearly seven decades; Shadows of the Bat: The Cinematic Saga of the Dark Knight o Part 1: The Road to Gotham City; Part 2: The Gathering Storm; Part 3: The Legend Reborn; The Heroes, The Villains and a heck of lot more.
