Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Djimon Hounsou, Blood Diamond is set in Sierra Leone amid the chaos of the brutal civil war in the 1990s.
Kidnapped by rebels and forced to slave in the diamond fields, Solomon Vandy (Hounsou) one day finds an extraordinarily huge, flawless pink diamond that could provide his family an escape from a refugee camp.
Smooth diamond smuggler Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio - complete with African accent) learns of the pink diamond and persuades Solomon to help him find the gem, while enlisting the help of idealistic American journalist Maddy Bowen (Jennifer Connelly), who is in Sierra Leone to uncover the truth behind the wicked industry of conflict diamonds.
The three put aside their selfish motives to embark on a dangerous trek though battlefields and jungle seeking the priceless diamond - and something far more precious, Solomon's son.
Highlighting the hitherto largely ignored issue of how some of diamonds that sparkle on the fingers of the more wealthy arrive in the stores, this movie hammers home a message without being preachy or losing any of its entertainment value.
Bonus features include commentary by director Edward Zwick, Blood on the Stone documentary, Becoming Archer, Journalism on the Front Line and
Inside the siege of Freetown featurettes plus rapper Nas's Shine On 'Em music video.
