It`s by the Coen Brothres! What more has to be said?

It also has the underated Jeff Bridges in the lead role as "The Dude" a part he was born to play.

Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski is a guy that takes everything in his stride and likes to bowl, smoke a little weed and have the occasional acid flashback. One day his hippie bubble is burst when he is mistaken for Jeffrey Lebowski the pasadena millionaire by two thugs demanding money and pissing on his rug.

Confiding in his crazed Vietnam Vet buddy Walter ( the brilliant John Goodman) he is advised to visit the millionaire to claim compensation for his rug.

This is where he becomes involved in a labrynthine ( and chandler-esque) plot involving porn stars, private detectives, artists, and ex-con pederast bowlers.

Only the Coen Bros can pull this stuff off, (think of Fargo or Blood Simple mixed with the kinetic energy of Raising Arizona.)

Every scene of this film is filled with sharp dialogue, lively direction and superb acting from an all star cast including Steve Buscemi, Julianne Moore, John Turturro, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Sam Elliott, Ben Gazzara, Peter Stormare, and Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Wonderful! Simply Wonderful and from the day it was released still remains my favourite film.
