How huge? He apparently only starred in the terrible ‘Daredevil’ because he was such a fan of comic author Frank Miller’s work on 'The Dark Knight Returns'.
He also built a secret Batcave in his house.
Director Kevin Smith revealed Affleck’s Batman obsession in a recent podcast, when he recalled visiting Affleck's home back in 2001. Having taken his guest into a room housing a beautiful bookcase, Smith remarked: "That's nice… a lot of books." But was startled when Affleck pressed a button to reveal a hidden room behind it.. But Affleck replied that he "built a Batcave entrance."
Still, whether it was a Batcave or just a Bat-entrance, you have to admire the lengths he'll go to for his love of the character… and it's certainly promising when it comes to him taking up the iconic cowl and Bat suit.
"This dude has loved Batman going as far back as I can remember," Smith said. "He only did f**king Daredevil because he loved Frank Miller's 'Dark Knight Returns'."
"He's like, 'They're never going to make another Batman,' because this was after Batman had nipples and s**t like that. So he was like, 'Daredevil's cool, and Miller wrote him as well.' So he liked [Daredevil], but it was always rooted in Batman."
Of course, it's unlikely that his love of Batman was the only reason he took the ‘Daredevil’ role. But as the upcoming 'Batman vs. Superman' movie is rumoured to take inspiration from Miller's 'Dark Knight Returns', we can’t help but be impressed.
"He'll honour the character," said Smith. "I honestly think the dude's a great actor. It makes absolute sense."
We'll just have to wait and see.
