With 'Slumdog Millionaire' and 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button' scooping the most nominations, it was always going to be an exciting battle to see who would take home the most BAFTA masks. Add into the mix a host of A-list actors who walked the red carpet either to present an award or hoping to receive one, it really was an exciting night.The late Heath Ledger won Best Supporting Actor for his role in 'The Dark Knight'.

Best Film: 'Slumdog Millionaire'

Best Actor: Mickey Rourke

Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger

Best Supporting Actress: Penelope Cruz

Also nominated: Amy Adams, Freida Pinto, Tilda Swinton, Marisa Tomei

 

Best British Film: Man on Wire

Also nominated: Hunger, Slumdog Millionaire, Mamma Mia!, In Bruges

 

Best Director: Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire)

Also nominated: Clint Eastwood (Changeling), David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Ron Howard (Frost/Nixon), Stephen Daldry (The Reader)

 

Best Animation: WALL-E

    These BAFTA's are a joke...How can Slumdog win best film but NOT in the British best film catagory?? The Yanks must be pissing themselves...

    Just a quick one.. In Bruges was nominated for best British film. It was Irish, not British!

    It's wonderful that Slumdog Millionaire won Best Film and Best Director for Danny Boyle, but it was a great night for Kate Winslet who got Best Actress - she definitely has a great chance of nabbing her first Oscar after years on missing out - good luck to her!!

    I thought it was in very poor taste allowing Jonathon Woss to host the Baftas.... I would rather have seen Maggie Thatchers daughter host it....

    Not saying it was'nt a great performance, but you cannot just focus so blindly on ledger eckhart deserves just as much a nomination as heath, he was easily as good.

    can't really say about the actors...very varied performances...but the Best Film / Director deserved it....really excellent..as was the soundtrack. Better than Train spotting..ne day!
