The new Blair Witch Project

Mon Oct 26 09:54AM by Movies Editor

The new Halloween and Saw films are coming to a cinema near you soon, but the film touted as the scariest you'll see this year cost £9,000, stars no major names and is filmed on a hand-held camera.

Dubbed the new 'Blair Witch Project' – 'Paranormal Activity' is said to be so terrifying that Steven Spielberg (no stranger himself to scaring cinema audiences) stopped watching it halfway through!

The film stars two relative unknowns as a couple convinced that their new home is haunted. Deciding to find out for themselves, they set up a camera in their house to document the supernatural activity.

It jumped from number 20 to one at the US box office beating the latest Saw film to the top spot – largely due to a marketing campaign on its website ParanormalMovie.com which has over a million people in the US demanding that the film be shown near them. Clever online marketing techniques include showing an audience reaction to the trailer, attracting over a million views on YouTube.

Watch the trailer here.

Like 'The Blair Witch Project', 'Paranormal Activity' looks likely to be a slow burning tale with foreboding chilling atmosphere preferred over gory special effects. Forget about the couple surviving the night at their haunted house, the big question is will the film survive audiences huge expectations that are more used to gore and cheap shocks when seeing a horror film of late?

'Paranormal Activity' is set for release in the UK on 25th November.

What do you think of the trailer? Are you excited about seeing 'Paranormal Activity'?

Some love the movie. Some hate the movie. One very important question about any movie is: Are there any hot women in the movie, and do they get nekkid in it?

this film is really poor. i was expecting something really scary & creepy or so.. & i didn't get what i wanted. i jumped more when i got scared by someone with me then watching that film. i really thought that after all the advertisement this film has had it would actually be good, but it has decieved me.

If it's anything like as unfathomably boring as blair witch then I don't think I'll bother. Spent the whole time with that waiting to be scared and then when it finally ended it wasn't at all clear what was going on.

the film is rubbish, jurassic park was more scary than this rubbish. this film has been hyped by the film company and doesnt justify the title of the scariest movie ever made.

The problem is - people don't think enough about evolution, so they're too easily impressed. I think this will be a very interesting film to see, but I'll probably have to rewatch it on dvd later as there'll be too many people ruining it with their stupid screaming in the cinema T_T
