James Bond returns in first Skyfall poster

With 161 days (we're counting) left until James Bond returns in 'Skyfall' this October, Yahoo! can reveal the first poster right here.

Keeping things simple, the poster has star Daniel Craig front and centre with the iconic gun barrel behind him.

Sony Pictures are looking to get the ball rolling with a poster and the first trailer, which arrives Monday morning (21 May) and will be attached to 'Men in Black 3' which is released next Friday on 25th May.

The poster also indicates that the famous gun barrel opening may return after its absense from 'Casino Royale' and 'Quantum of Solace'. A move that makes sense given that this year is the 50th anniversary of the film franchise.

Daniel Craig returns for his third outing as 007 with Dame Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes and Javier Bardem fleshing out a great cast.

Naomie Harris and Bérénice Marlohe are the Bond girls for the 23rd outing of Ian Fleming's legendary spy with Sam Mendes ('American Beauty') behind the camera.

Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her," reads the official synopsis. "As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost."

We're fans of the first 'Skyfall' poster, but how does it compare to classic Bond art?

The 007 films are a treasure trove for classic posters - from the early Connery efforts and their distinctly 60s tone to the more modern posters that showcase sleek design.

When it comes to the ladies on the posters they've been controversial as well, especially the art for 'For Your Eyes Only'. Check it out below with a few more of our favourites.

'Skyfall' is set for release on 26 October 2012.
