Bryan Singer rubbishes X-Men: Apocalypse gossip

Bryan Singer has denied rumours that we'll get our first glimpse of Apocalypse in a X-Men: Days of Future Past post-credit sequence.

Word on the grapevine was that a scene would see Michael Fassbender's Magneto possessed by an alien known as Apocalypse.

But Singer told Empire: "That's not the case. People were concerned we were making Apocalypse an alien. It's odd. I don't know where that came from."

The director did, however, discuss his plans for the threequel, revealing the 2016 release will be more of a follow-up to 2011's X-Men: First Class.

Fans can also rest assured, as the film version of Apocalypse will take its lead from the character's ancient Egyptian comic book origins.

"What would people thousands of years ago, without the benefit of science, think mutants were? And more importantly, what would mutants thousands of years ago think they were? Gods? Titans? Angels? Demons?" Singer teased.

"If such mutants did exist thousands of years ago, what became of them? Did one survive?"

X-Men: Days of Future Past hits cinemas in May this year, while X-Men: Apocalypse is scheduled for 2016.
