Bryan Singer Says X-Men: Apocalypse Will Be A ‘Spectacle’

Director promises "mass destruction" for franchise future.

Bryan Singer has revealed that his sequel to X-Men: Days of Future Past will be a big screen spectacle.

The director has discussed the already-planned follow-up, saying it’ll be something the franchise has never seen before.

Reports suggest that Apocalypse will focus on the younger incarnations of the familiar mutants that Matthew Vaughn introduced in 2011’s First Class. Singer has also suggested he’ll "introduce familiar characters in a younger time.”

He told Total Film: "We're going to deal with the notion of ancient mutants - the fact they were born and existed thousands of years ago.

"But it'll be a contemporary movie - well, it'll take place in the '80s... The '80s is a period now - it's hard for me to believe that!"

Singer also revealed that the third film in the X-Men prequel series will "have more of the mass destruction that X-Men films, to date, have not relied upon. There's definitely now a character and a story that allow room for that kind of spectacle.”

The director is currently working with Days of Future Past’s Simon Kinberg and X2 writers Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty on plotting the story.

X-Men: Days of Future Past will be released on May 22 2014, while X-Men: Apocalypse will hit cinemas on May 27, 2016.
