Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis star as Luther and Nora in this Yuletide comedy, based on John Grisham's novel Skipping Christmas. They play a couple planning to eschew the usual festivities for a tropical cruise when their daughter Blair (Julie Gonzalo) leaves for Peace Corps duty in Peru.

However, their memo noting that Christmas is cancelled in the Kranks household doesn't go down well with their typical small town neighbours, in particular unofficial chairman of the block, Vic Frohmeyer (Dan Akroyd). Having also learned that their daughter will be flying home with her fiancé, The Kranks eventually decide on a domestic Christmas. With not much time to spare tempers are frayed and the comedy really begins.

They're called the Kranks, they live on Hemlock Street (poisonous, geddit?) where the inhabitants are obsessed with the more commercial side of Christmas. Luther is jailed for what appears to be an attempted Christmas tree robbery, there's a Botox gag and Jamie Lee Curtis in a bikini (still!). Okay, so it's not quite up there with National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation in terms of jokes but it's pleasant enough Yuletide viewing.
