Making your big screen directorial debut is tough enough so spare a thought for the ambitious Matt Dillon - not only did he helm this thriller, he co-wrote it and stars in it too.
Dillon plays Jimmy, a US national who has relocated to Bangkok to escape the repercussions of an insurance scam back home. Finding out that his partner (James Caan) is holed up in Cambodia, Jimmy heads off to get his share of the loot but what he finds is a hostile environment that he'll be lucky to get out of alive.
Considering this is the first time Dillon has been behind the camera (save for an episode of TV drama Oz), he's actually done pretty well.
Reminiscent of Philip Noyce's remake of The Quiet American, it's exotic location (most of the film was shot in Cambodia) is lushly shot and the cast Dillon has assembled, including Natasha McElhone and Gérard Depardieu, all perform well and give Matt a solid start to his alternate career.
