Jim Carrey stars as a lonely man whose job, as the title suggests, is to install cable. When he is called upon by an average man with an unremarkable lifestyle (Matthew Broderick), who is only guilty of requesting a few free extra channels, he begins what seems to be a campaign to gatecrash his life in a way which couldn't be imagined outside of a nightmare.
Carrey is at once funny, a tad scary and, of course, a little bit madcap in a film that takes a comedic look at the extreme consequences of loneliness. As he would prove in later films such as The Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Carrey boasts a broader range than just silly facial expressions, and this film was probably the first to exploit him as a whole.
Ben Stiller, who directed the film, has a small part in it, as does his Starsky & Hutch co-star Owen Wilson.
