Adaptations of Dr. Seuss offerings are tough, as Ron Howard discovered with The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. So iconic is the visual style of books such as Green Eggs And Ham and The Cat In The Hat that generations of fans have a very clear idea about how the author's work should appear. Can Mike Myers, then, bring Seuss's most famous creation to life?
The plot itself is simple enough. Conrad (Spencer Breslin) and Sally Walden (Dakota Fanning) have to entertain themselves while Mom (Kelly Preston) is at work. Thanks to a massive, magical Cat, they go on a huge adventure which explores the universe created by the eccentric Seuss.
Although the movie got a bit of a critical panning, it looks stunning and will no doubt be enjoyed by youngsters. Myers really hams it up as the titular Cat, while Alec Baldwin has the misfortune to play the slimy neighbour up against the mischievous mog.
There's plenty of extras too, including an audio commentary with Baldwin and director Bo Welch, deleted scenes, outtakes and a host of featurettes.
